Commemorative Service in Lions Memorial Park   -  1 August 2010

More than 100 Lions, family and friends joined members of our Club in the Richard Lewis Park, Bull Creek for the annual memorial service to commemorate Lions and partners who have passed. Twenty new plinths and trees were added to the Memorial Park this year making a total of 205 in the Park. Bull Creek Lions President PDG Bob Huey led the service followed by plantings and refreshments.

The ceremony had special meaning for our Club this year because a plinth and tree were planted for Lion Frank Mansfield, long-serving club member and Melvin Jones Award recipient.

The Lions Memorial Park was initiated by PDG Bill Robertson. Club members maintain the park's native foliage and the commemorative plinths under the leadership of Lions Ron Dickinson and Rob Davies.

More information about this important Bull Creek Lions' project and photos from the recent service can be viewed in the Photo Gallery and Projects links on this Home page.

Bull Creek Lions 40th Anniversary Celebrations

Our Club was chartered on 27 May 1970 and commenced with 24 members. After 40 years of successful involvement with the local community, the club now has more than 50 members.

On 29 May,  we celebrated our 40th anniversary at a dinner dance at Thompkins on Swan, Alfred Cove. Master of Ceremonies, Lion Kerrol Gildersleeve welcomed special guests and past and current members and partners.  City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey, Lions District Governor Neil Saunders and Club President Cherrie Goodier congratulated the club on its 40-year success. Joshua Wasley (DJ WAZZ), son of club member Lion Gordon Wasley, kept the dancers on their feet with an excellent selection of music.

Two highlights of the night were the awarding of the Melvin Jones Award (posthumously) to club member Lion Frank Mansfield (photo below right) and the James Richardson Honour Award to Anne and Miro Strk, shown below with Club President Cherrie Goodier and District Governor Neil Saunders. Over a 15-year period, Anne and Miro provided fresh produce from their Bull Creek IGA business for the annual Australia Day Breakfast.
